Iron Maiden (who have seen lots of incredible crowds over the years) said that their Costa Rican crowd was maybe the most amazing crowd ever.

Para los que no quieran perderse esta fiesta, todav?a tienen la oportunidad de comprar una entrada, ya que hasta ayer se hab?an vendido un 90% de ellas.

For those who do not want to miss this event, they still have the opportunity to get a ticket, because until yesterday it had sold 90% of them.

That doesn't look like it's big enough to be the GN'R stage...

Where are the speakers on the sides?

GN'R's stage is usually also higher than the person standing in front of that stage...

I feel sorry for GN'R, imagine being excited and preparing for a show and then this happens. I'm sorry for the fans too, must be a real disappointment to be told the show isn't going ahead.  :'(

But we must remember it's no ones fault, just extremely bad luck again, like in Rio.

But we must remember it's no ones fault, just extremely bad luck again, like in Rio.

Sorry but I have to disagree with that.

In developed countries the construction of metalic structures, temporary or not, are supervised by a structural engineer ... shit like this can not happen under any circumstance, since there are human lives involved ... this can not happen in the case of dynamic actions, such as a storm, much less in the case of a static actions, such as the weight of a screen.

Of course, an accident is unpredictable and can happen anywhere ... but this happened 2 times in such a short time, is not normal ... someone must be asleep at work...

Well I think it's obvious the storm that happened in Rio was a case of bad luck and mother nature. We still don't know the details of what has happened in this case. But I think it's unfair to just jump straight in and blame whoever is responsible for constructing the stage, without knowing the facts.

Well, Brazil has got what? 200 million people? one of the worlds biggest economies. I think they could find a decent engineer among all those people. Now Costa RIca I have no doubt its incompetence  :hihi:

I said that an accident can happen anywhere ... but when this situation is repeated in a short time, it is natural to assume that there may be human causes.

Moreover, it is good to assume that, so someone can work to investigate what really happened, to avoid that happening again ...

I really wonder if the band or any fan had fallen beneath the stage structure, people would also think that "it was just bad luck"

This should concern the band. I hope inspections are done by crew members prior to the band taking the stage.

Luckily the stage collapsed during setup, and not later, potentially when the band was on stage performing.

Conspiracy theories start NOW!

Why not let them play tomorrow? Plenty of time to break the stage down for proper setup tomorrow.

Probably some fucked-up politician doesn't want the show to happen regardless.

Again sorry for the bad translation, they explain here why they cannot play tomorrow.  Looks like there's another event booked.

The reason is that the engine company will have the Ricardo Saprissa stadium facilities early on Monday, and confirmed Manrique Mata, director of Rpm.

"We already signed a contract, it would be impossible because the event requires at least four days to build the track also depends not only on me too for the people of Monster Jam, and Saprissa," concluded Mata.

To be honest, I am really surprised that the city won't let them reschedule tomorrow. GN'R aren't having much luck with venues on the latest tour. I'm just really bummed for the fans, I know how I would feel if not only the show was cancelled but to be told that it doesn't look likely to be rescheduled either.  :(

Between Ecuador & Panama we had a 5-day break and were able to get a cargo plane to Rio and back for the make-up show - we have no breaks from here til the end of the tour and don't know if it'll be possible to reschedule the show after the tour ends - the gear is supposed to go straight to Europe from Puerto Rico. I wish there was something I could do, feel fkn helpless. I emailed management to see if there was any possibility of doing an outdoor acoustic show tonight, but don't think it'll be possible, a lot of logistics that come into play - security issues, any conflicts with existing performance contracts, finding a location, getting local gear last moment, government approval... I think tonight we're all at a loss :( I'm as sad as everyone, I came here to play a show for you tonight. (I'm at the hotel, never even got to go to the venue...)

I understand you GUNNER, I just like to think that whoever's job it is to construct the stage for GN'R, knows what they are doing. But in this case, we know that they did it wrong, which kind of scares me. Imagine if no one spotted it was unsafe and the show went on, I can't even imagine how dangerous it would have been for the band and crowd.

I was surprised to read that too. I don't think they're going to perform earlier than june since they'll still be in Europe mid/end august.. And that would be a very long European leg.
Maybe they need to check, recheck and adjust the stage for Europe? But I doubt something like that will take a full 2 months.. Then again, I don't know jack ;)

Hello

I travel yesterday to Costa Rica to see GN'R, 7 hours in th bus, it didn't matter, I even met another fan and we shared some thoughts on everything, now I'm coming back to Nicaragua, I just arrived, and I was pretty sad yesterday, because as I was arriving to the hotel, decided to put on the local news channel just to find out in the headlines that the show was being cancelled, I stood like a statue and couldn't believe the damn thing...

The other guy, passed by my room warning me not to go to the stadium because there was no show.

So basically I just went to costa rica to spend the night... at least I  had some beers with another fellow fan from Nic that was already there, we went in a bar where at 8 pm someone started playing GN'R songs in a jukebox!! 4 songs that I should have been able to see live and sing along... not from a jukebox in a bar.... :'( :'(

Anyway, I guess it's better to cancel the show instead of having anyone hurt from the band, the fans and or the crew...   I would have to see when and where I might catch them, because I need to see them....
Thanx to Bumble for updating , I would have liked to at least see them at the hotel which was far from where I was staying.

MY understanding is the company  (28 producciones) was saying that 90% of tickets were sold. This could be to scare people into buying tickets...An old marketing technique. I dont know which channel did an interview of a fan who was already at the stadium two nights before the day of the concert, he was suprised he was the only one there. I did see a lot of people after noon going with gnr t-shirts towards the concert, that was just minutes before I found out the concert had been cancelled.

But lets wait for marito's reponse :P

People stop thinking that GnR would cancel a show due to poor tickets sales that would not fucing happen.  In Stoon they had maybe 50% sold and they played for almost 3 hours.  However as it was reported by band members the show was close to being sold out.   The stage collapsed because the people putting the stage together fucked up.

acoustic bass, and a guitar for me to use. Had to make music that
night, I wish it could have been as it should ha...ve been, but at least
tried to bring smiles to the group that was there, as they did for me :)

Ok he is my story i'm one of the guys in the picture. I was really depressed that the concert was cancelled, i live like 2 kms from the Marriot Hotel, i decided to go there to see if at least i could meet the band, and at 3:00 pm i went to the hotel. I was there from 3:00 to 10:00 pm, i met everyone but Axl :( , the band was really sad that the concert got cancelled, i asked DJ if they were working on a new album and he said that he is always writing, that was cool to hear. Then later at night i met Ron, there were very few fans, life 5 or 6 fans, he said that he was very sorry what happened to the concert, then i asked him to play an acoustic show for us, he went to eat something, i was at the same restaurant with the whole band, i also met Jarmo, cool dude. Then Ron came to my table and said that he was going to get his guitar.

When we were going up the stairs to the lobby and told him that i wanted to go to El Salvador show and he gave me a free ticket and a backstage pass, how amazing is that? out of this world, well i couldn't make it to El Salvador, sad.

Ok then we took some pics with Ron and we werer looking for a spot to play the acoustic show. He took us to his hotel room, that was unbelievable, i was the one that told him what songs to play, kinda like he gave me the leadership because it was my idea to do the acoustic show.
Then we went at the parking lot and more people came, the ones that are in the picture, and kept playing till 9:00.

Thank you Ron, you are the greatest person alive, an example, you are humble, down to earth so talented. I love you my friend.

Private Concert Setlist (not in order):

(Some Jammins between Songs)
Don't Cry
Madagascar
Catcher in the Rye
Better
If the World
Street of Dreams
Patience
Used to Love Her
Cover song (don't remember wich one)
Paradise City

Inspiring moment, the energy and vibe was ubelievable
Cheers!!!

So the Costa Rica show has been reschedule for tomorrow at  La Guacima racetrack, and the Guatemala City show has been cancelled.

According to this article the same contractor who build the faulty stage is building the new one.

To give credibility to the assurances of the promoters, work on erecting the stage at La Guacima race track was underway during the weekend.

The work is being carried out by the same constructor who erected the faulty stage at the Saprissa.

I think because you can't be in two places at once.

GN'R was going to be in Costa Rica on the 13th to play the rescheduled show.

But then that changed and I guess it was just too late to go back to the original plan...

This is all a chain of unfortunate events.

It's not the band's or Axl's fault at all.

I know some fans like to think so, but that's only because they're clueless.

If the band could, they would!

Need proof? Look at the way the Rio show was rescheduled.

Originally we were going from Quito to Panama and we would have had a few days off there.

Instead we flew on a chartered flight all the way back to Rio, did the show and flew to Panama.

Trust me, it's not just as easy as "use the equipment and play".

Equipment has to be shipped well in advance to the next leg of the tour.

If I'm reading this post by Jarmo correctly,
http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=59576.msg1248520#msg1248520
the 13th would have been the only date available to do a rescheduled Costa Rica show.

The Guatemala show had to be canceled in order to attempt to work out the logistics for Costa Rica for that date.

When the Costa Rica reschedule didn't work out, it was too late to undo everything that was set in motion towards Costa Rica in order to be able to re-up Guatemala for that original date.

After the show originally scheduled for Friday at Ricardo Saprissa Stadium was canceled due to a faulty stage setup, hopes for a makeup date were dashed Monday when the band posted a statement on their Facebook page saying they would not reschedule a concert date in Costa Rica.

True to the confused, on-again, off-again nature of the events surrounding the concert since its announcement in early March, as of Monday night it appeared the show would be rescheduled. At 10:28p.m. Monday night, a posting on the band's Facebook site read:

?The Costa Rica show has been rescheduled for April 13th. Please note that the show will take place at a new venue.?

The post was followed by an early morning confirmation that the concert would be held at La Gu?cima in Alajuela on April 13.

However, as soon as word of the rescheduled concert circulated amongst national media outlets, a third post on the Guns N' Roses Facebook page at around 11 a.m. extinguished fan's hopes. ?Central America update: The previously announced rescheduled show in Costa Rica at La Gu?cima will unfortunately not happen,? the posting read.

With the announcement of the official cancelation, the production agency 28 Producciones, which was in charge of the event, sent out an apologetic email to fans and members of the press. The email assured ticket-holding fans that they would be reimbursed and that all inquiries should be referred to the Web page www.28producciones.com.

Did they ever say why the Guatemala show was cancelled?  ???

I get that they had to cancel the original Costa Rica date but what does Guatemala have to do with it?

If I'm reading this post by Jarmo correctly,
http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=59576.msg1248520#msg1248520
the 13th would have been the only date available to do a rescheduled Costa Rica show.

The Guatemala show had to be canceled in order to attempt to work out the logistics for Costa Rica for that date.

When the Costa Rica reschedule didn't work out, it was too late to undo everything that was set in motion towards Costa Rica in order to be able to re-up Guatemala for that original date.

Well I think that's ridiculous. You cancel a show to make up for another cancelled show? What about the people who bought tickets to see the show in Guatemala, are they less important? Or do you cancel the show in Puerto Rico to make up in Guatemala?

I suppose the logic is that more people bought tickets in Costa Rica so they wouldn't lose as much money by cancelling Guatemala. If that's the case, while I'm sad for the fans that didn't get to see the band, at least the greedy assholes behind this dumb ass decision are going to have to refund even more people than they wanted to in the first place.

And shame on Guns N' Roses for agreeing to this.

Maybe because of the Costa Rica show and the Guatemala show where both arranged by the same promoter and they don't trust him after what happened with the stage set up in Costa Rica.

?28 producciones? it's the worst company in show organization. They can't do anything right. 28 producciones failed to provide a safe stage. The band tried to re-schedule the cancelled date of Costa Rica and 28 producciones failed again.

Costa Rica fans should ask for another promoter.

Apparently, ?28 producciones? and the production company of Guatemala reached an agreement and decided to reschedule the date for Costa Rica. But some businessmen also involved in these shows weren?t informed about this reschedule. In a few words, internal problems between companies.

Don't even try to hear that FUCKING SHIT!!! fucking journalists why in the fucking hell they always blaming Axl for these cancelled gigs? also they are saying that all the Chinese Democracy World Tour 2009-2010 has been a totally failure and the band is so mediocre that every newspaper in South America said that this band is a big crap. And also (and if they were slim or some kind of anorexic stupid cunts) said that Axl is so fat that he couldn't even sing and move properly on stage.

That fucking promoter is saying that they cancelled the Costa Rican show because the GNR stage technician said that the stage was not secure to place a show right there (in other words the stage was fucked up), and now that lame promoter is seeking every legal procedure to state a Lawsuit against GN'R.

Please GNR management or Axl or anyone make an official statement regarding this issue, because all the journalist in SA are spreading bullshit across the globe and INSULTING to everyone involved in GNR (members, crew, staff, fans)...

It's ridiculous to you because you don't get it.

You assume GN'R thinks one crowd is less important than another because you want them to. It's all in your head.

The way I see it, is that the Costa Rica show was cancelled due to circumstances that were out of the band's and crew's hands.

They tried to reschedule it because they wanted to do the show. That's why everybody's in Central America in the first place. To play shows.

I'm sorry to have to tell you that sometimes you have to make a decision that will disappoint some people.

But if you can make more people happy than disappointed, then you might choose that alternative.

Maybe that's what happened. But in the end, it didn't work out.

And once again, nobody said anything about fans in Guatemala being worth less. Nobody.

Because the promoter isn't reliable enough? Look for example what happened with the Costa Rica show. They had to cancel the show because the stage set up wasn't safe enough. Will you take that risk again when you know that this promoter is responsible for both (Costa Rica and Guatemala) shows?

man, the promoter is not the same guy for both concerts.  28 productions have nothing to do with the local producers.
these idiots tried to set the stage in less than 24 hours and because of that fell off the stage the first time, after the gig was rescheduled and then canceled them again because it was not safe. What happened? nobody knows.  But it was our fault???   in any case had brought the stage used in El Salvador on Sunday.

Well, since you asked for clarification, I will clarify.

First they cancelled Costa Rica, then they cancelled Guatemala to make-up Costa Rica.

That doesn't make any sense.

Cancelling 2, rescheduling 1, still leaves you where you started, with 1 show cancelled, so what's the point?

Guatemala show was cancelled due to several reasons according to Oscar Morales.

Source:  http://www.sigloxxi.com/vida.php?id=7798 (Second paragraph)

For those who don't read Spanish:

?According to Oscar Morales (from Global Production, the company in charge of the production of the show in Guatemala) there are several reasons that led to the cancellation. First, the equipment used for the show of Costa Rica was the same equipment that they were going to use for the show at Estadio del Ej?rcito, since the country doesn?t have enough structures to carry out a setup of this type. Hence, it wasn?t possible to do the show in Guatemala. Second, to bring GN?R to another date would mean a change of logistics in the tour, and the cost of transfer of the equipment and the band would be expensive. Third, the low selling of tickets for the show (less than two thousand tickets until Sunday).?

Ever heard the saying "actions speak louder than words"? Nobody said anything about Guatemala being less important but that's how it looks like in this situation.

And I think you misunderstood me but I don't think GN'R thinks one crowd is better than the other, in case that wasn't clear that was referring to the organizers of these shows. The only thing I blame GN'R for in this situation is in how they announced this news to their Guatemala fans:

The Costa Rica show has been rescheduled for April 13th. Please note that the venue has changed.

You have to agree that reading about the cancellation of the show you're supposed to go the next day like that is pretty fucked up.

secondly, that if they brougt the stage then no matter if they played for 2,000 people? jajajaajaja that stupid.

and third, "the logistics" TOO EXPENSIVE??? it would be expensive bring the stage from El Salvador?? yeah right.

Just curious... how many Rock Concert stages (and crews) have you transported across national borders? Who are you to say what is or isn't too expensive?

with all due respect but you dont believe it is cheaper to bring something from El Salvador to Guatemala (which is to close to guatemala) to bring something that is much further from here...

I understand what you're saying, but why cancel our concert in Guatemala?

good for fans to reschedule the date of Costa Rica, but at our expense.

In any case had rescheduled our date, but not remove our gig.  I'm really trying to understand, but nobody says anything officially.

What I feel is that the production company of Guatemala doesn't care if GN'R plays or not. They didn't do anything about it. They didn't want to reschedule the show. For example, in Argentina there were problems with the River Plate Stadium due to a lawsuit by some neighbors, but our production company tried to do something to solve the problem. And they found a way to solve it. There, in Guatemala, they don't care. Of course, I'm not talking about fans. Maybe, it's because of the low selling of tickets as Oscar Morales said. That's why they aren't interested in investing time or money.

Ever heard the saying "actions speak louder than words"? Nobody said anything about Guatemala being less important but that's how it looks like in this situation.

By that logic, GN'R thinks less of any city and country where they have never played.

Please!

Things aren't always just up to the band. I wish you'd get that by now.

And I think you misunderstood me but I don't think GN'R thinks one crowd is better than the other, in case that wasn't clear that was referring to the organizers of these shows.

Well if you have an issue with the promoter, just say so.

if it is down to ticket sales surely releasing songs to radio and makin some videos would help no end, Better, SOD AND TIL would get the album flying high in the charts and people desperate to go and see them. To everybody else who isnt a hardcore fan like us its just a load of new guys playin songs they never wrote with Axl

There are bands as big as Guns & Roses touring the World as I type this, bands that have toured 10 times more than what Gn'R is touring 'now'.
I understand shit happens and I'm NOT blaming Axl or his crew but certainly GN'R Managment plays a huge part on this.
Why this kind of things doenst happen to Iron Maiden, Paul McCartney, Metallica, U2, Motorhead????  Why does this have to happen in Gn'R World ALL the time?
I'm not whining, I'm just wondering.... ???

when maiden played in bangalore the stage was made of WOOD! and you can see on the dvd that the were very afraid of playing, becuase they thought the stage would collapse.

And you will say "yeah but the played!".....but what would have happened if the gig before was cancelled because of stage collapse??.

I can understand that they take some precautions.

Nah. It's not only GN'R. For example, Metallica cancelled two shows in Argentina in 2001  for no reason. Yeah, no reason. They cancelled the two shows after many people had bought the tickets. After this cancellation, nobody wanted to play their songs on the radio. People started to hate them, I was one of them, haha. I remember I bought the tickets by credit card, so the service charge wasn't returned. Cancellation can happen anywhere. This year, Metallica decided to tour here after many years, well... we forgave them for that cancellation ::).

...and that happened 9 years ago ;D  You can't compare Metallica touring 2 years straight and cancelling two shows and Gn&R doing a 4-5 month tour so far and cancelling two shows! Makes no sense. That managment should go home

A little quote from a Costa Rican news site:

"...
It seems the local production company wanted to milk the concert for all it was worth and that was plenty with a 15,000 sold out venue. To make sure of big bucks, senior management decided to hire on some totally inexperienced and cheap labor to build a stage. It did not take long for the Guns N Roses guys, who have been to this type of rodeo before, to recognize there was a reasonable, if not likelihood the stage was going to collapse. Especially when their technical director saw the overhead lights tilt to the west end of the stage and the stage itself slowly sinking into mud from a recent rain.

But, Axle, the good guy he is, gave the production company a second chance and another concert date the night after the first cancellation. A can do situation!

Hurriedly, ?28 Producciones? found a new location, almost as good as the first. But, instead of re-building the huge stage with experienced people they went back to the beginners again and the rest of the story just speaks for itself. A second and permanent cancellation which is reported to cost the production company close to $ 1million if all debts and tickets are to be refunded not to mention Costa Rica shame for lousy management that can be read on Facebook and Twitter.
..."

"We hope to be able" is not a guarantee.

Some things are out of the band's control.

Like for example the stage in Costa Rica.

I'm sorry to have to inform you, but Axl didn't build that stage. It's not his fault the show got canceled.

React like what?

Just letting you know the simple facts.

A show doesn't happen just because GN'R wants to play, there's more to the picture than that.

Yet fans are always holding the band accountable for everything. Even when things are out of their control.

Just saying, if these shows happen: Awesome.

If not, they tried.
