1,787,700 so far per musicharts.net

Is that based on worldwide sales?

Not bad- with stronger singles probably to come ("This I Love", "Sorry"), CD should hit 1 million in U.S. sales by summer.

damn, if you read on other boards, its like doomsday and GnR is a massive failure.

When put in context, the album was only out for about 5 weeks of 2008... I'd say its done quite well.

That's ALL GNR albums sold in Canada during the year though right?  Not just Chinese Democracy?  Obviously that's a large part of the sales though.

I really hope the album does well just because Axl & co. deserve it after all the shit they've been through.  But I hate that the fans think album sales is a measure of quality or success.

Backstreet Boys have sold more albums than Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath, and Tom Petty...at the end of the day, album sales really mean jack shit.

I respect the positivity, Gold isn't bad and hopefully it can inch close to Platinum, the Gold in the US actually isn't that bad, what surprises me is the Worldwide number only being around 1.8 million. Most really huge bands in the US usually sale anywhere from 6-8 million worldwide even on albums that don't do very well in the US.

I guess touring and stuff can't be underestimated as I guess that truly equals lots of album sales.

I just hope if they do tour this Spring, CD can be one of those late bloomers that catches on.

I personally feel CD sales are significant BUT just having this enormous monkey off your back is more important than anything else.

U got CD out, it got critically acclaimed and  now u can work on the follow up with a hell of a lot less pressure.

I don't know, you might be thinking of a very very small selection of bands. I thought the wordwide sales were pretty impressive, espescially if you compare it to what groups have similar numbers and consider that it is the first album of original material since UYI.

I could be wrong, but how many bands actually sold 6 to 8 million in 2008? I mean album sales were down again this year, (and i read somewhere that was espescially true the last three months of the year). I would think there was only a very few bands that sold that many...

There was a huge article months back that Nickelback may have the last honor of being a band that has sold 6+ million copies in the US now. The last album before this latest one had sold 6 million copies in the US. And the paper said with slippin sales and all , they could be the last band to move that number.

With 36% of sales reports in so far, Chinese Democracy is not in the top 50, unfortunately.  That's only a third of total sales reports, but still, that is not a promising sign.

The lack of foot traffic in Best Buy post holidays is going to hurt CD for awhile.

I think you mean "is" going to hurt, and yes, I agree.  People aren't going to be spending money on electronics right now in the US.

Yeah that is not a good sign.  Hanging around the top 30 was acceptable, I was hoping that'd continue.  But falling that far isn't the way to go.  Seems like a good time to release the video, no?  Any word on how CD and Better are doing?  Maybe just skip the "Better" video and release a new single WITH a video.  Whatever they decide will be fine, I just would hate to see CD disappear completely from the charts.

It's time to do something.

We gotta keep the album hanging around the charts before the tour.  I know January is a bad time for businesses, but I would hate to see CD drop off the map.

Must be a pride thing.  I'm overcompensating for my small penis.
