God it's getting boring with Americans keep asking this.

Look there doing a mini tour of Europe first and they will probably do a US tour in due course, until then Stop asking.

if I were Axl? I would only perform in NY , La and Chicago? .? America hates Axl .? He can still make alot of money touring in other countries.? If the album is great? and the demand for new gnr becomes huge in the U.S? again? ?Axl should release a statement telling americans fans to kiss his ass and go watch VR.? ?I'm an American? and I know how much people despise him here.? It would be a fraud if Axl performed in front of a bunch of posers? that are just on the bandwagon after all the negative shit they said about him.? Axl has a huge international fanbase? he doesn't need america to make money.? ?There are artist that make a shit load of money just touring outside of the US.

if axl told american fans to kiss his ass and go see vr he would seem like a man who couldn't make it.. America has bought plenty of gnr albums

The Illusion tour (which was 192 shows) was a full-scale tour. This tour (with most of them being Festivals anyway) is not a full tour.

it is partly a test, they know the europeans will buy tickets simply cause the ticket says gnr on it.. What is the promo, who's in the band what's the new music? Axl has to do this, he can't sell out the shows properly in America with no single or albums

How do you find out about axl playing in europe if you weren't searching the web? Is there some logo poster out there, does anyone know beside axl who they are seeing?? So far this thing is run like a joke..

In Finland we had tv commercials, whole page adds in newspapers, newspapers and several major (in Finland's perspective) internet sites had news articles on them coming here. So there was promo. So you really don't have to be a genius to know they're playing. All the news articles mentioned that Axl was the sole remaining original member. There haven't been articles about the other members 'causemost propably they're not very well known here outside musicians/music digger circles.

They buy tickets just because it has GN'R in them?? I really wouldn't say that. They buy tickets because they want to see Axl. This is most likely the closest thing we'll get to seeing/hearing something live we grew up with.

And to say that it's a test because they do a tour where they sell well, just because they want to see GN'R?

Yes. This tour is run really like a joke. Especially concidering that there's over 2 months to the first show, and they've sold out places. I'm not a qualified specialist in this area, but I think booking/ planning a European tour is pretty different from doing the thing in America. Over there I think the planning is relatively simple because of big companies like Clear Channel that can make all the arrangements and book venues with more ease, than over here having to book almost every venue separately, and having negotiations with many different parties. I don't think they can be compared as such.

Europe = Test Audiences

It's funny because it's stupid...

Why could it not be a test?

God it's getting boring with Americans keep asking this.

are you ok guys???

it takes a good deal of arrogance to call a full blown europe tour a test for the "real" tour in america....

do you think the tour in 2001 was supposed to be a test as well???

there are living twice as much people in europe as in the usa by the way.....something americans seem to forget sometimes.....

of course american promoters are careful to book gnr at the moment, but a european tour in the summer is definitely the obvious step, since the big festivals are happening then....

the people that i am attending the gnr concerts with this summer all know that axl is the only original member in gnr, but they don`t care about that. they want to see axl.

so basically they know a band called gnr fronted by axl will be there.. ?I mean how is that promoting a band,... I think there should be new material out after such a long wait, a single not just hey axl is going to be there the band is called gnr come down and see them.. I never said they didn't do the promo without ample time I feel they aren't doing it the way a band with a new album ready to release material would.. I guess it's a different world over here, if regular people saw a commercial saying axl is in gnr but no one else and that was about it so come down n see him the results would be less then pretty unless it was the major cities,... nyc LA  Today's kids here wouldn't just want to see axl ,.they wouldn't know who he was like they once did a generation before..

If an album comes out in april plus a single then I will say they did it right, plus an official lineup..

I know a lot people feel this band is followed like us, and I know certain people feel gnr is axl rose as long as he's there it's gnr.. There are bands I listened to growing up that I only knew the lead singer.. if whitensnake played  ashow I only need to see david coverdale because I have no clue who else is in the band or was in the band....  I think having an official lineup is important when a band that was huge globaly tours again with all new people

yeah.....  i don`t think it`s right to show clips of the old band, when promoting the new one....

and that is obviously the case in some countries now. they showed clips of the pc video in the mtv news here in germany for example....

and well...  a release in april is highly unlikely imo, but not impossible.....   a single in april is very likely, but i was speaking more about the promotional aspect of the tour after the announcement.... everyone will know about the gnr (axl...) comeback and the new line up then

so if they are using the old band as promo in some countries would you say this is misleading the fans who might not know and part of their buying tickets is in hope of seeing slash duff izzy or whoever was their fav old gunner?  The old bait n switch hihi

I know i say this all the time, only if the band was not called gnr there would be no getting anything confused, and axl would have to do some leg work on new promo..

But after this tour everyone will know that's for sure, and we better all be owning CD Cheesy

of course it`s misleading, but there isn`t even official promotion stuff out there at the moment.... i could be wrong though, since i`m only aware of the situation here in germany and rock am ring has it`s own promotion......
and they did promote the 2002 tour with the new band.....(boston promo etc...)

the promotional aspect in general seems to be highly disregarded with this band, but as i said before, this could change in a few weeks....

by the way, i agree with you that axl should`ve changed the name.... it would shut everyone up, who criticizes this band and compares it with the old one.....

but in some way i think that axl was always the most important part of gnr. at least to me....

God it's getting boring with Americans keep asking this.

Look there doing a mini tour of Europe first and they will probably do a US tour in due course, until then Stop asking.

how is 20+ dates a mini tour?
this is a full-scale tour.

The Illusion tour (which was 192 shows) was a full-scale tour. This tour (with most of them being Festivals anyway) is not a full tour.

But they didn't announce all those 192 dates at once did they? This might be the first leg of a long tour. You don't know their plans after July do you?

For your information, in 1991 the European leg of the Get In The Ring Motherfucker tour was just seven shows, in 1992 they played in Europe from May 16th to July 2nd and in 1993 from May 22nd to July 13th, but I don't think you'd call those mini tours....

Yeah so I'm saying it's inevitable that GnR will tour the USA, but it's pointless keep asking "when" it will happen here when no one can answer that.

Why could it not be a test?

A test? Why _would_ it be a test? Why wouldn't the European dates be just as much the real thing as the any other dates?? They're just practicing for the US leg? Right.. From the looks of things about 90% of the dates will be sold out so I don't think they'll come here to 'test'. They'll come here to play rock. Or at least that's what it looks like from my pov.

I don't mean test as in warm up for the "more important" American gigs. I mean test as in judge reactions to new songs, casual response to the new band etc. I just gave what I felt was an answer to Horsey's question as to why GNR haven't announced US dates yet.

As for the arrogance comment, I'm European myself. I'm not some American spouting off about how they are practising for "the important people".

let`s put it this way: did anyone think the north american tour in 2002 was a test for an upcoming tour in europe, since the european tour was cancelled twice in 2001 and no promoter would book gnr there again?

actually it wouldn`t be fun to those people who come to the concerts to see slash and duff....

but i think germany is a special case, since there is no headlining show, but just rock am ring.... most people who plan to attend rock am ring aren`t just there because of gnr. the casual german doesn`t even know that gnr is about to tour europe this summer and parts of the  german fanbase tend to avoid the rar show and attend concerts in foreign countries..  (conny is a good example for this...)

fortunately you created a thread about this, since it`s really interesting to get to know what the  promotion/media presence in countries with gnr headlining shows is like.....
