Interesting intro wasted by so so lyrics, at least in the first verse and chorus. Like "IRS" this song seems to pick up around the second verse and go from there. The multiple personality the song seems to have keeps me thinking about it. This has the potential to grow on me but isn't easy on the ears at first. The outro is a high point of the song for me. I wonder which came first, that outro or the thought that this song would finish the album? Either way it's a perfect end to the record, it gives you time to reflect on everything that just happened in the last 70 minutes or so.

I still cant listen the word prostitute in the song...he just doesnt say, unless he has something in his mouth while he is saying it

But the word prostitute fits very well in the song. Its one of my favourites, i was blown away the first time i listened to the final version in CD. It has classic written all over it!!! its a 5/5

I like it as a closer and as a song in its own right. Grows into a great climax before a peaceful resolution. One of Axl's better delicate vocal deliveries in the verses too.

One of the best tracks really, and I think that's the only one who hasn't changed so much from the leaks.

Maybe a longer guitar solo would be nicer, but overall is a great song, and one that will certainly be a hit live, as the drums are awesome!

Who does everyone think this is directed to?

I think both this, as well as This I Love, are dedicated to Stephanie...

I was eh with this song when I heard it the 1st time. But man has it grown on me in such a short time. I can't stop singing it. I've listened to it 5 times already today. Might become one of my all time favs by years end.
"Why would I choose to prostitute myself" great fucking lyric.

He says it...right toward the end of the song (4:14 mark):

"Ask yourself
why I would choose
to prostitute
myself
to live with fortune and shame"

I'm not exactly sure how accurate I am with my depiction of the song...but if it's what I think it is...it's brilliant.  How it may not be literally prostitution giving money to girls for whatever the need is...being a rockstar and having so much money...girls will date you and use you just for your money and fame (fortune and shame) anyway.  Which isn't just true for rockstars but mainly anybody for that matter...which makes the common man able to relate to the song...

Although I may be entirely wrong about it...I've only heard it less than a handful of time...

No way!  The outro to this song is PERFECT for ending the cd...

Sure the song may not be as radio friendly or catchy as the other two...but the outro is absolutely perfect to end on...

I "get" from it that it's about being famous, in general.  And that there has to be some purpose to it beyond JUST being rich and famous.  That you're, in a sense, prostituting yourself...and if there's no grander purpose to that...if you're just doing whatever it is your doing to BE famous and BE "loved" by the fans and to have "lots of stuff"...you ARE just a prostitute.

It sounds like he's warning someone away from THAT....or, rather, seeing that they both set out on sort of the same path..with a loftier purpose (Axl's is artistic, obviously)...but the person he set out with seems to have lost their way a bit.

I DO think it might be to Stephanie.  It's sort of a companion piece to "Street of Dreams", IMHO.
