To clear things up before someone brings it up (and I know they will) - if Tommy Stinson was to write a song about how much of a dick Slash is, I'd be just as pissed off as I am about this. Wink

This is the same sort of discussion people had when 'Sorry' came out. Would it make people feel better if Slash said: "And for the idiots, no this song was not written about someone i used to know"?

But i can already apply the song to different situations ive encountered in life.

It doesn't matter what you can apply the song to, it matters what it was written about. Ozzy has no business writing about what happened in GNR since he wasn't there and doesn't know what has gone on and what is now going on.

@Genesis The thing is people will listen to this song and believe what Ozzy is saying about things is true. That's the problem.

And I wouldn't buy that for a second. We have Ozzy and Slash on record. Slash knew exactly what the song was about and let it go on his record.

Again, no mention of midnight visits to this target of this song's home seeking reunion?

You people are making a big deal that it was Ozzy who wrote the lyrics. I guess that considering it's on the album, Slash is okay with the lyrics (whatever that means to him).
Would you all be happy if it was Slash himself who wrote the lyrics? Yeah, I'd thought so.

Sure. If Axl said so. I didn't say Sorry was about Slash did I?

If it was Slash himself who wrote them, I honestly wouldn't give a shit. It's his life, so he has the right to write about it, whether I agree with what he's saying or not (he'd know better than me what went on, after all).
It does get to me that Slash is supporting someone who didn't go through the situation in sticking his nose in, when he's said in the past that he hates people who do that, though.

Another thing I find interesting is that Slash in his book said he was pissed at Scott Weiland for releasing his statement calling Axl a "wig-wearing fuck" because he felt that Scott had no right to talk about Axl being that Scott had not ever dealt with Axl like Slash had.

Why doesn't the same rule apply to Ozzy?

And on top of all of that, it's not a great song. Definitely not what I expected from Ozzy... especially with the talk of it sounding kind of like Sabbath. It's enjoyable, but that's about it. I never thought I'd prefer a song with Fergie to a song with Ozzy. Undecided

Well, if people are that bothered, they should ask him directly about the lyrics. The song itself is pretty forgettable anyway.

Axl Was Here

« Reply #51 on: March 25, 2010, 03:17:31 PM »

Wow, some of you take things so seriously. "He wasn't there! He doesn't know the truth! Wah!"
Lighten up. It's just Ozzy's take on things. Are you people seriously now telling Ozzy what he can or cannot write and sing about?

I don't think Axl will give a flying fuck. Just a bunch of people on message boards.

Exactly Ozzy can do and sing whatever he wants. He has earned it.

If it was Myles or Kid Rock or something, I think it would be a little different.

Also Ozzy isn't calling Axl names like a wig wearing fuck.
That's totally different, uncalled for and not true.
The lyrics in a song are art and can be interpreted in different ways.

All he really says in the lyrics are "to me your dead" and I think Slash probably agrees with that statement after being called a cancer.

That is quite a laissez-faire attitude towards a shit stirrer, which is exactly what Ozzy is doing.  Having a solid career doesn't entitle a person to promote ignorance and myth as fact.

Ozzy latched onto the public perception of the break up and deposited on Slash's 'solo' album. By putting it out there, Slash has given this his stamp of approval.

Slash says things about Axl.
Axl says things about Slash.
Slash puts a cd out with a song about Axl.
The ball is in Axl's court now.

It is the best soap opera going on anywhere. Lets see what happens next. Ususally when Axl does say something it is pretty harsh rant. I am just curious who he will say it to Ozzy (which probably want give a damn) or Slash.

Slash has been pretty nice in interviews lately about Axl. Hell he has been out right complementary. But he had to know the song would cause a shit storm. So why did he let it happen? JMO I think the cancer comment stung more than Slash will let on.

Slash said that Ozzy wrote the lyrics were pointed to some men he worked with.

it's up to you how to see it.

yeah

for all people blaming Slash for writing this to Axl or about..

Slash - "this is an interesting one. He [Ozzy] wrote those lyrics.... I was sitting beside him in the studio when he was putting it together and it had something to do with a relationship he'd been in. I'm not going to specify with who, but it's one of those vocals that could relate to a lot of people. Which is kinda funny because it reminded me of alot of relationships I've been in as well."

it seems you didn't check a page back;
Quote
Classic Rock magazine, April 2010. Bigass feature on Slash's solo record, and the following quote from OZZY:
I helped write the lyrics and melody for the song with my producer. It's kind of about what I think happened to Guns N' Roses. I often say to Slash 'Y'know what? One day you guys are going to wake up and go "What the fuck did we have and why did we blow it?". The song's what I'd be singing to Axl if I was Slash, y'know, 'They can't crucify you when you're dead'

I'm a Ozzy fan, but this is a shitty fuckin move ok

Just quoting this post for gnrjanus to read. I think Ozzy knows what he was writing about more than Slash. Wink
